RIOS, an architectural design firm based in Los Angeles, USA, launched notNeutral in 2001. They developed their cups from the four perspectives of "functionality," "relevance to objects," "individuality," and "culture," and after working with top baristas to design them, they used technology in a trial and error process. They created cups for specialty coffee that were designed based on fluid dynamics curves, ergonomics of the relationship between the handle and the action of holding the cup, and the optimal distance between the face and the cup to enjoy the aroma of the coffee.
