August Orangutan Coffee Month

8月 オランウータンコーヒー 月間

Thinking together about the future of endangered orangutans

As part of its efforts to promote orangutan coffee, Ogawa Coffee will be holding an "Orangutan Coffee Month" campaign from August 1st (Thursday) to August 31st (Saturday), coinciding with International Orangutan Day on August 19th every year.

|Ogawa Coffee and Orangutan Coffee|

Ogawa Coffee is committed to protecting the natural environment and maintaining a sustainable society for the future of delicious coffee. As part of this, in 2017, Ogawa Coffee began selling Orangutan Coffee, the first coffee in Asia to do so.
Indonesia is also famous as a coffee producing country, but the world's largest lowland tropical rainforests are shrinking due to forest fires and illegal logging, and the Sumatran orangutan and Tapanuli orangutan that live there are also endangered species. To improve this situation, the non-profit organization PanEco is working to conserve orangutans. The Orangutan Coffee Project aims to protect the natural environment in which orangutans live and enrich the lives of local coffee producers through the production of high-quality coffee together with roasters, baristas and other experts who support this conservation activity.

In this campaign, we will hold the "Orangutan Forest Painting Competition 2024" with the theme of "Let's draw! The life of orangutans living with the forest". In addition, we will invite Tomoyuki Tajima, a director of the NPO Japan Orangutan Research Center, to hold an online seminar "Orangutan School" where participants can learn about the ecology and habitat of orangutans while also thinking about protecting the natural environment, and Ogawa Coffee will offer a limited-time menu using orangutan coffee at its directly managed stores.
