Clear skies and cherry blossoms
Clear skies and cherry blossoms. A refreshing sky that makes you want to try something new.

I created this with the hope that it will make people feel excited by thinking about the clear spring air and the new things that are about to begin.

Spring stroll in Kyoto

Feel the spring in Kyoto with "Spring Coffee."
We will bring you Kyoto's rich nature and charming cityscapes that change with the seasons.
The chill has eased a little and it's now softly warm in Kyoto, making you want to go outside in the lovely spring weather.
Admiring the contrast between the blue sky and the cherry blossoms, I wonder where I should go today.

Ogawa Coffee's recommended points

The Takase River can be seen from the second floor of Ogawa Coffee Kyoto Sanjo store.
This is a hidden gem where cherry blossoms bloom in the spring.

  • Kyoto Tower

Kyoto Tower is a landmark in front of Kyoto Station. Built in 1964, its lighthouse-themed design was designed by the same architect, Yamada Mamoru, who also designed the Nippon Budokan. In addition to an observation deck that overlooks Kyoto from about 100 meters above ground, you can also enjoy a casual food hall, souvenir market, and workshops where you can experience traditional crafts and Japanese sweets. If you want to take a photo of Kyoto Tower through the cherry blossoms, we recommend going to Shosei-en Garden, about a 10-minute walk northeast.

  • Ninnaji Temple

Ninna-ji Temple was founded by Emperor Uda in 888 and is a prestigious temple with ties to the Imperial family, where successive generations of members of the Imperial family served as chief priests until the Meiji era. In 1994, it was registered as a World Heritage Site. The national treasure, the Kondo Hall, is the remains of the oldest Shishinden Hall, built in the Momoyama period and moved from the Imperial Palace. Omurozakura is known for being a late-blooming cherry tree that blooms around mid-April and has been designated a national scenic spot. The contrast with the five-story pagoda is particularly beautiful, making it a must-visit place during cherry blossom season. Another nice point is the wide variety of amulets available, including those with cherry blossom and clover motifs.

  • Ryoanji Temple

Founded in 1450 by Hosokawa Katsumoto, this is a famous temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. The famous dry landscape garden of the Hojo is shrouded in mystery, and the creator is still unknown. The meaning of the arrangement of 15 large and small stones known as "Tiger's Cub Crossing" is also unknown. In addition to the weeping cherry blossoms visible through the clay wall surrounding the rock garden, the scenery of the cherry blossoms on the banks of Kyoyo Pond reflected on the pond's surface is a sight to behold. There is also a cherry blossom garden, and since the cherry blossom varieties in the temple grounds bloom at different times, you can enjoy the best viewing period for a long period of time.

  • Philosopher's Path

This 2km walking path is said to have been a favorite walk of the legendary philosopher Nishida Kitaro, and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best roads. From Ginkakuji Temple in the north to Kumano Wakaouji Shrine in the south, the quiet path that runs along the canal seems like a good place for deep contemplation. The row of cherry trees is also known as Kansetsu Sakura, as it was a Somei-Yoshino cherry tree seedling that Hashimoto Kansetsu had grown and was donated by his wife. There are famous temples and shrines along the path, making it the perfect place for sightseeing in Kyoto. It gets very crowded during peak season, so it's recommended to take a walk early in the morning.

  • Sannenzaka

Sannenzaka, with its steep stone steps, is also known as Sannenzaka, and is said to have been so named because people would often visit the Koyasu Pagoda at Kiyomizu-dera Temple to pray for a peaceful birth. Sakamoto Ryoma's regular lodgings are here, and many fans of the artist visit in search of a glimpse of his former self. In spring, the aged weeping cherry trees blossom like falling over the trees, and combined with the charming streetscape designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, it makes a great photo spot. However, be aware that it can get quite crowded, so be careful.

  • Kiyomizu Temple

It was founded in 778. There are references to Kiyomizu-dera in The Pillow Book and The Tale of Genji, and it has been a place of worship for people since ancient times. If you stand on the 13m-high stage that juts out from the main hall, you can see a field of cherry blossoms in full bloom below you in spring and the cityscape of Kyoto in the distance. During the special spring nighttime opening, the cherry blossoms are lit up and a single sliver of blue light representing the mercy of Kannon Bodhisattva colors the night sky, creating a solemn atmosphere around the area. It is a view that you definitely want to see.
